Description

Bulbine belongs to the family Asphodelaceae in botanical classification (formerly a subfamily of Liliaceae). The genus name Bulbine is derived from the Latin word bolbine, meaning “having a bulb,” referring to the fact that species in this genus possess bulbous, tuberous roots (bulb-shaped tuber). 1. Growth period management:

Species in this genus prefer cool climates, and cultivation practices are similar to those of the genus Haworthia in the Crassulaceae. They like cool weather and dislike heat; the growing period is from September to the following May. At the end of August or early September, as the weather cools, new leaves begin to emerge from the rootstock, and normal management can gradually resume. In winter, a temperature range of 5 °C to 20 °C is recommended; under these conditions the plants can continue to grow and can be given regular fertilization and watering. They can overwinter safely indoors at temperatures not below 0 °C.
