Description
White Bird (Mammillaria herrerae Werderm.), a species in the cactus family, genus Mammillaria. It is globular, initially growing singly then forming clusters, and its entire surface is covered with soft white spines; the body is very soft. The flowers are 2–3.5 cm in diameter, pale red with a hint of purple, and there are also small white flowers. The fruit is round and magenta. Cultivation is difficult; the growing period is very short, and high summer heat and humidity often cause rot. Water when the potting soil is dry and keep it in a cool place. When grafted onto a frame, the initial growth is good, but over time slight neglect can also lead to rot. It is best to continually graft new pups to preserve the variety.
